Thursday 18th May: Dawdles Walk with car share 4.7 miles
Smardale Nature Reserve
From CWT Smardale car park we will walk the disused railway as far as the spectacular Smardale Viaduct. Look out for red squirrels and late spring flowers. Return to Kirkby Stephen for optional refreshments.
Thursday 25th May: Dawdles Walk
Hartley village and Kirkby Hill
One of our favourite circular walks to the pretty village of Hartley. Optional climb of Kirkby Hill to see the views over the town and surrounding countryside. Optional refreshments in town.
Thursday 1st June: Dawdles Walk
Greenriggs Farm via Tarn Lane
This is the route of our Kirkby stephen Family Adventure Walk taking in footpaths to the west of the town, Bloody Bones and Tarn Lane returning via Croglam Lane. Optional refreshments in town.
Friday 2nd June: Legstretcher with car share 12.5 miles
Orton Scar
A walk on Orton Scar with lovely views and an opportunity to take in the geology.
Thursday 8th June: Dawdles Walk with car share 5.4 miles
Augill Pasture, Stainmore
This less well-known Cumbria Willdlife Trust WT nature reserve lies next to the A66 on Stainmore. It was originally a 19th century industrial landscape with the ruins of a lead smelt mill dating from 1843. There is a woodland and mountain pasture haymeadow to discover the wildflowers. Some climbing steps and two stiles but only a short walk. We will find refreshments for those wishing to stop.
Thursday 15th June: Dawdles walk
Swingy Bridge via Hartley & Bollam Lanes
This charming walk takes in two medieval lanes which were once our highways. Lots of wildflowers in the hedgerows and a couple of Poetry Path stones along the way. Swingy Bridge over the River Eden was named because it had no central pillar and Moved when you walked over it, the footbridge today is very solid. Optional refreshments in town.
Thursday 22nd June: Dawdles walk with car share 4.7 miles
Bowber Head Farm Haymeadows, Ravenstonedale
A chance to visit these upland haymeadows now under the care of Cumbria Wildlife Trust when they should be at their best. Dogs must be on a lead at all times. CWT will be grateful for any donations. We will find refreshments for those wishing to stop.
Thursday 29th June: Dawdles Walk
Northern Viaduct Trust Walk & Podgill
Frank’s Bridge to Hartley and up to the NVT disused railway so a bit of a climb to start and then along the old railway to the information platelayers’ hut. Then cut across the field following the Nateby/Hartley boundary wall down to Podgill. Optional refreshments in the town.
