How to get here

By train

Kirkby Stephen is served by the famous Settle to Carlisle line, with trains running daily from Leeds and Skipton to Carlisle. The station is about a mile from the town centre and can be reached by footpath.

By car

Kirkby Stephen is well positioned if arriving by car, with easy access to the A66 from the north east and from the M6 at junction 38, Tebay. There is free parking in the main car park in Silver Street and some side roads. In the town centre there is a 2 hour limit.

By bus

The town and surrounding area has a few bus services to places such as Kendal, Hawes, Barnard Castle and Penrith. Most run once a week only. Some are on classic coaches. View and download various timetables.

By foot and bike

Many people do arrive by foot or by bike, often on one of the long distance routes that pass through the town or nearby. To keep weight down you can use a baggage transfer service such as Coast to Coast Packhorse and Sherpa Van.
