Westmorland Dales Day

Explore the Upper Eden and Westmorland Dales
A day of festivities including a selection of walks to showcase the area sandwiched in spectacular landscape and heritage between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and North Pennines AONB.

In the week of the Festival a handful of local walks will be made available for free download to the Walkingworld app, to do whenever you like. The app gives step by step instructions and you can follow the route on an OS map.

Guided walks
‘A Walk on the Clouds’, Fell End, Ravenstonedale devised by Cumbria Wildlife Trust and friends
3.7 miles, moderate
This walk gives ‘An introduction to its Geology, Natural History, Land Use, and Value for Nature Conservation’ at the foot of Wild Boar Fell with limestone pavement.
Walking boots are essential as there is some rough or rocky ground and steep grassy slopes. Please wear clothing suitable for changing weather.

Off A683 towards Sedbergh parking along the roadside by Fell End Quarry near The Street.

Ravenstonedale Meadows
3 miles, easy
Meet Ravenstondale School car park 10.00 am or car share from Kirkby Stephen by arrangement.
A lovely walk across the meadows in Ravenstonedale with beautiful views. Some renowned haymeadows which whilst cut for hay, they and other pastures will still have flowers to enjoy.
Easy walk but with the novelty of 27 stiles to cross. Finish in time for a late lunch back in Kirkby Stephen.

1.5 hours
A leisurely walk around Kirkby Stephen Conservation Area exploring the alleys and streets from the Anglo-Saxons to the 20th century.
Meet Upper Eden Visitor Centre, Kirkby Stephen CA17 4QN, 2pm
Walk can be adjusted for wheelchair users.
